Hymenoplasty or hymen reconstruction surgery is the surgical restoration of the hymen. This is a safe and effective procedure which can be done under local anaesthesia, where the torn edges of the hymen are stitched together with absorbable sutures. It is an office or OPD procedure. Patients are advised to avoid sexual intercourse for 4-6 weeks following the procedure. There is no evident scarring and the hymen appears intact. After this type of hymen surgery, subsequent intercourse will typically tear the membrane causing mild bleeding and simulate virgin like feeling. There may be mild bleeding for 2-3 days post-operatively, but that settles down spontaneously. Antibiotics are prescribed for 5-7 days to prevent any post-operative infection. Postoperatively precautions must be taken to prevent the hymen from getting torn. All forms of aggressive physical exercise or sports such as swimming, cycling, or squatting are restricted for a period of 4-6 weeks from day of surgery.

After the hymenoplasty operation or revirgination surgery, the patient can return to work next day and sutures will get absorbed by 7-10 days.
