Blepharoplasty In Delhi

The earliest sign of ageing on the face is seen around the eyes, in the form of excess fat above and below the eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under the eyes. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects these deformities. This surgery also helps to cope with problems of poor vision, that are caused due to severely sagging skin around the eyes. It may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. It can address both upper and lower eyelids of both sides at the same time without increasing complications. The results of blepharoplasty are frequently long lasting. The results of upper eyelid surgery are expected to last for about 5 to 7 years, while lower eyelid surgery results are usually longer lasting.

It can be done at any age after 18 years. However, most people who get blepharoplasty done are in their 30s or older.

Usually, eyelid surgery can be done under local anaesthesia and in the office, as an OPD procedure. Only occasionally, especially if patient so desires it or if it is part of another procedure, may it require general anaesthesia but even then, usually it is a day care procedure and the patient is discharged to home a few hours later.

Asian blepharoplasty, or double eyelid surgery, is surgery that places a crease in the Oriental upper eyelid that originally showed no fold. Patients typically desire to look more bright-eyed and want to make applying eyeliner easier. Patients also seek to remove the puffy and tired look associated with a fatty upper lid. This surgery is characteristically done in the people from Northeastern part of India or from East Asian countries.

In the postoperative period, the following precautions should be followed:

Avoid lifting heavy weights and consumption of blood thinners. Cold fomentation, ice packs (3–4 times/day), and head elevation while sleeping, helps to reduce swelling and edema after surgery. Avoid using eye makeup for 10–14 days after surgery.

For recovery, the patient can take pain medications and may rest for the first few days following surgery. Minimal bruising and swelling are common and are resolved within a fortnight. Ice packs accelerate the resolution of swelling.
